Mexican self-taught artist Oscar Brum is currently based in Milan, Italy. His art is the result of a millenary cultural legacy combined with his travels across the world. He aspires to establish a conversation between old symbolisms and current dogmas while investigating the link between the artwork and the spectator as a means of reciprocal contact. As he investigates the profound cosmovision of pre-hispanic cultures of Mexico and Latin America, death and its fundamental role in existence is an important pillar in his creative inquiry. Oscar managed to expand his understanding of artistic production and experiment with unconventional methods, incorporating natural elements like water, light, and temperature, among others, and exploiting their effects on his pieces, transforming them into vivid interpretations of what he refers to as the “Great Universal Mysteries.” Since 2015, he participated in various solo and group exhibits at galleries, libraries, fairs, and universities. He has won multiple honours, including “Best Artist” at the 15th edition of the Paratissima Contemporary Art Fair in Turin and the New Post Photography award.
L’artista messicano autodidatta Oscar Brum vive attualmente a Milano, in Italia. La sua arte è il risultato di un’eredità culturale millenaria unita ai suoi viaggi attraverso il mondo. Aspira a stabilire un dialogo tra antichi simbolismi e dogmi attuali mentre indaga il legame tra l’opera d’arte e lo spettatore come mezzo di contatto reciproco. La morte e il suo ruolo fondamentale nell’esistenza è un pilastro importante dell’indagine creativa dell’artista, che indaga la profonda cosmovisione delle culture preispaniche del Messico e dell’America Latina. Oscar è riuscito ad ampliare la propria comprensione della produzione artistica e a sperimentare metodi non convenzionali, incorporando nelle sue opere elementi naturali come acqua, luce e temperatura, e creando effetti particolari sui suoi dipinti, trasformandoli in interpretazioni significative di ciò che lui chiama “ Grandi misteri universali.” Dal 2015 ha partecipato a numerose mostre personali e collettive presso gallerie, biblioteche, fiere e università. Ha vinto numerosi riconoscimenti, tra cui “Miglior artista” alla 15a edizione della Paratissima Fiera d’Arte Contemporanea di Torino e il premio New Post Photography.
