Joaquin Vila is a visual artist, muralist, and scientific illustrator from Madrid, Spain. He owns a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Scenography Design from the European University of Madrid, a Postgraduate Diploma in Exhibition Design from Elisava in Barcelona, and obtained a Unesco scholarship for the Watermill Foundation in New York, and the MACBA, Barcelona’s Contemporary Art Museum. His art depicts hybrid entities that are half human, half animal, or half plant. With these beings, he wants to conceptualise a debate between science, mythology, and imagination. They are non-material, reflecting life beyond the physical, the unseen. Blue indigo is his signature hue, which appears in all his artworks since he finds this shade of blue ideal for expressing the depth and the infinite. The lines and dots represent the vibration, energy, and electricity that passes through all living things and produce an optical appearance of delicate movement that is nearly imperceptible but present. His creative work is guided by a continuing examination of the relationship between the human being and the natural world, concentrating on studying natural processes of transformation, fusion, and symbiosis.
Joaquin Vila è un artista visivo, muralista e illustratore scientifico di Madrid, Spagna. È laureato in scenografia e design presso l’università Europea di Madrid e possiede un diploma post laurea in Exhibition Design presso Elisava a Barcellona. Ha ottenuto borse di studio Unesco dalla Watermill Foundation di New York e dal MACBA, Museo di Arte Contemporanea di Barcellona. La sua arte raffigura entità ibride in parte umane, in parte vegetali o animali. Con questi esseri vuole concettualizzare un dibattito tra scienza, mitologia e immaginazione. Esse sono immateriali e riflettono la vita oltre il mondo fisico, rappresentando quello invisibile. Il blu indaco è la sua tonalità caratteristica, che appare in tutte le sue opere perché trova questa tonalità di blu ideale per esprimere profondità e l’infinito. Le linee e i punti rappresentano la vibrazione, l’energia e l’elettricità che attraversa tutti gli esseri viventi producendo un aspetto ottico di movimento delicato che è presente, ma impercettibile. Il suo lavoro creativo è guidato da una continua ricerca della relazione tra l’essere umano e il mondo naturale, concentrandosi sullo studio dei processi naturali di trasformazione, fusione e simbiosi.
