Marcus Debie, better known as GOMAD, is a colorblind Dutch artist. He was born in the city of Sittard in the south of Holland in 1972, where he currently lives and works. GOMAD began his creative career in the early 1980s in the Southern Dutch graffiti scene, heavily influenced by the legendary films ‘Beat Street’ and ‘Style Wars.’ So much so that he is regarded as a pioneer in that region. His art is described as the apex of post-neo cubism. He combines oil paint, acrylics, and sprays in a colorful manner to create compositions that fuse photorealistic pictures in a mind-bending surrealistic setup against cubistic and organic shapes. He presently works as an international urban fine artist and muralist, creating murals and paintings for shows around the world.
Marcus Debie, meglio conosciuto come GOMAD, è un artista olandese daltonico. È nato nella città di Sittard, nel sud dell’Olanda, nel 1972, dove attualmente vive e lavora. GOMAD ha iniziato la sua carriera creativa con l’arte dei graffiti all’inizio degli anni 80, fortemente influenzato dai leggendari film ‘Beat Street’ e ‘Style Wars’. Tanto che è considerato un pioniere in quella regione.La sua arte è descritta come l’apice del post-neo cubismo. Combina pittura a olio, acrilici e spray in un modo colorato per creare composizioni che fondono immagini fotorealistiche in una configurazione surreale e sconvolgente in contrapposizione a forme cubistiche e organiche. Attualmente lavora come artista e muralista urbano internazionale, creando murales e dipinti per mostre in tutto il mondo.
"Guarda il cielo minaccioso"
This mural portrays a young woman in grief after her lover was killed in a violent altercation. The girl glances up towards the sky, hoping to catch a glimpse of him in paradise. The cardinal bird, which symbolises the beloved, informs us that he will live on in the hearts of those who love him. Flowers provide comfort because they allow us to communicate with the departed without words. The rose in her hair, in particular, is a symbol of love and transience. The piece is a tribute to Raffaele Cesarano, a victim of absurd group violence.
Questo murale racconta la storia di una giovane donna a lutto perché il suo ragazzo è morto in uno scontro violento. La ragazza guarda il cielo sperando di scorgerlo in paradiso. L’uccello cardinale che simboleggia l’amato ci dice che egli resterà vivo nel cuore di chi lo ama. I fiori sono un conforto perché permettono di comunicare col defunto senza parole. In particolare la rosa nei capelli è simbolo di amore e caducità. L’opera è dedicata a Raffaele Cesarano, vittima di un’assurda violenza di gruppo.
